The camera does not matter. The most important thing is the right time and place.

Can shoot with a cheapest and oldest equipment, but if one manages to capture the right moment, there you go.  READ MORE »

Most relaxed capital city on Earth

Quiet street on Monday morning, Vientiane, Laos

"Monday morning, a hotel in "insert any capital city". Wake up call in order not to miss an appointment in "any country's" embassy. Quick cup of coffee and rush downstairs to grab a taxi in a busy street."
Could be a perfectly exact description of the working week's start, could fit to most of us.  READ MORE »

Three men carrying a boat over a shallow part of the underground river in Kong Lo (Kong Lor) cave, Kong Lo, Laos

How is it that the strongest feelings and most fascinating experiences are so difficult to express?
We have visited Kong Lo cave (though "Cave of Kong Lor" sounds better) today.
It's a 7,5 kilometer long cave under a mountain, connecting two lush valleys. It's high - sometimes up to 50 meters. And it's wide, around 100 or so meters at it's widest.  READ MORE »

Soviet-American combo for good

Anti - narcotics poster in Laos

Anti - narcotics poster in Laos

Anti-drug poster that could be seen in towns of Laos. Drawn in social realist style, very much reminds of Soviet type agitation. Notice the American flag (sign of American participation), and a boy in the top right corner, wearing a red neck tie (a symbol of "pioneers", i.e. junior communists).  READ MORE »

Woman repairing a punctured tyre of a motorbike near Tha Khaek, Laos

You know, it's a myth that there are "men only jobs" and "women only jobs". Women in Asia can perfectly well do any type of job - change a flat tyre of a motorbike, load a truck with cargo or go for industrial fishing.
That leaves men with a time pressure relieved and some extra time available for being able to enjoy a fine company of other men and round or two of a serious card game.  READ MORE »

Sunset with a dramatic sky in Pakse, Laos

It is not so easy to get off the beaten track during travels. Same cities as everybody else, same buses, same guesthouses. Boring, banal, but comfortable.

And there's always the question - "if that town is not in the guide book, it probably has nothing special about it, hasn't it?"  READ MORE »
